Case #5 Final Judgement Walkthrough Print E-mail
Thursday, 09 March 2006

NOTES:

1) For questioning, I assume Auto Evidence Questions is on: Otherwise, it wil be necessary to
drag 'n' drop evidence onto characters to ask the necessary questions
2) I also assume all DNA and prints are subjected to a search plus a cross-comparison with other samples
2) If you've got Evidence Tagging on, some evidence, such as DNA samples, may not be tagged as
complete until you have subjected it to a search (and, possibly, matched it with one of the result set)
AND cross-matched it with (an) other sample(s)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

INTRO
Judge Lawford (see Case #1 - Later 'Gator) has been found dead in his study.

Judge's Study:
Examine the body: (No sign of a struggle):
1) Head: Close up on wound. Swab blood.
2) Right hand: Use scope to look at nails: No trace of attacker

Look at Desk:
1) Collect the loose pen
2) Collect the notebook PC

Turn around to the left of the desk and close in on the printer:
Close in further on the red switch and dust for a print

(To Horatio's left (screen right), you might notice a dark mark (hole) in the wall: This will
come into play later: Similarly with the bookcase diagonally opposite at the other end of the room)

To the right of the desk, on the wall, find the roulette wheel:
Click on any of the numbers on the right side of the wheel, to close in, and dust for a print on the 17

Continue turning to the right to locate the liquor cabinet:
1) Close in and then close up on and collect the appointment book
2) Click back a step and shine the flashlight (torch) onto the floor between the bar and the cabinet:
3) Click on the stain, to close in, and swab it
4) You'll now also see a medicine bottle: Collect it, then open it in a popup and dust the top for prints
(If you try dusting it while it's on the floor, you'll be misled into believing there's no print)

Back in the main view, turn to the fireplace and close in on it:
1) Close in on the blue diskette: Clean it with the brush
2) Use the tweezers to collect the "organic substance" (flesh) off the diskette
3) Click out a step and close in on and collect the charred paper, under the grating

Back in the room, find the bust of Shakespeare to the right of the fireplace and click on it

Go to the Morgue and ask Alexx to have the body brought in:
1) Learn that the bullet is back at the crime scene
2) Time of death
3) Click on the vic's neck: No bruising

Back at the Crime Scene:
1) Click on that hole in the wall (by the framed golf club and baseball bat) and learn where the bullet went
2) Go to the bookcase and click on the pinkish marbled book until it opens up: Retrieve the bullet

(See the QUERY at the end of this article for a discussion of this bullet)

Let's go to the Lab and "listen to the evidence":
1) Bullet: 9mm
2) Print (roulette wheel): Ron Preston (see Case #2 - Crack or Jack)
3) Print (printer switch): Donny Bronson
4) Print (med bottle): Donny Bronson: (Cross-match with printer print)
5) DNA (Judge's blood): No hit on CODIS: Doesn't match flesh flake
6) DNA (flesh from diskette): Louis Stanford
7) Med bottle: Contained painkiller (oxycodone hydrochloride)
8) Diskette: Solve cryptogram (Clue: it's about Donny Bronson: If you're stuck, see CRYPTO at the end of this article)
9) Charred paper: Ballpoint ink: (Maybe the Judge was writing on it with that pen we collected?)

Go to Yelina:
1) Ask her about Donny Bronson, Louis Stanford and Ron Preston
2) Learn about Troy Sullivan (see Case #3 - The Hate Boat)
3) Interrogate Sullivan
4) Ask Yelina to check Sullivan's visitor records

Off to Palm Glen (golf course):
1) Talk to Donny Bronson about Judge, print on the printer, print on meds etc:
2) Says he was at club with Stanford at the time of murder
3) He will tell you to ask Ty about Ronny Preston
4) Talk to Ty: He will mention Heather Cole (see Case #1)

NOTE: We will return to Ty from time to time for more news

Yelina:
1) Get a prisoner interview with Heather Cole
2) Interrogate Heather: She says she knows who did it then clams up

Palm Glen
Talk to Ty: He says Denise Diamond (see Case #4 - Sun Stroke) claims to know who did it

Yelina
Get an interview with Denise Diamond
1) Find out about Denise's relationship with the vic and with Stanford
2) She says Stanford is the murderer: He's missing

Back to Palm Glen: (I'm getting travel sick!!)
1) Ask Donny B about Stanford: Horatio says we should see Yelina
2) Donny tells us the Judge was uncharacteristically moody when he last saw him
3) You can check with Ty, but ther's nothing new

Yelina:
Ask about Stanford: Turns out he's come in to see the cops himself: Interview him:
1) Stanford says he was kidnapped by Ron Preston and says he saw Preston shoot the Judge
2) He gives details of the abduction, including sounds he heard (possibly a dog track): Mentions Olympic Overpass
3) He explains the was the Judge's literary agent: the Judge's memoir would expose the corruption within the Justice System
4) He says he was in the trunk of a car at the time that Donny Bronson says he saw him at Palm Glen: Check with Ty

Ask Yelina about dog tracks near Olympic Overpass:
There is one near Heather Cole's house: Ask for warrant for Cole residence: Can't get one yet

Palm Glen
Ask Ty about Stanford & Bronson at club:
1) He can't confirm that they were there: They might've been with the Judge
2) He explains about relationship between the Judge and Heather Cole
3) Ask him for latest word around the club: He's spoken to Ron Preston: We need to go and see him ("with a warrant")

While we're at the golf club, question Donny:

Yelina
1) Get a warrant for the Preston microbrewery
2) Continue interview with Heather Cole and ask about Bronson and Preston
3) Continue interview with Troy Sullivan: He says he and Ron Preston are responsible for the Judge's murder
Says the Judge manipulated people into committing murder

Microbrewery
1) On the floor between Horation and Ron, click on and collect the cigar butt
2) Talk to Ron and bring him in for questioning ...

... Interrogation Room
1) Ask Ron about his relationship with Judge
2) Ask him about Stanford kidnapping
3) Why did he shoot the Judge?: He says he didn't know he was dead
4) Ask about his involvement with Sullivan
5) He explains he and Sullivan did plan the Judge's murder, but he was killed the day BEFORE they intended to do it
6) Claims he was going to tell the Judge that Sullivan wanted him dead
7) He received a strange note from the Judge: Get the note: It says "Black 17" (Hmm, what does that make you think of?)

Yelina
1) Re-interview Sullivan: He claims Judge was killed on the 13th (the day he and Ron planned)
2) Continue interview with Stanford (Who suddenly becomes "Shilling" in Horatio's speech)
3) Get warrant for the Cole house

The Cole Home
1) By the sun lounger, click on the Whiskey bottle: Near the label, get a fingerprint: Horatio suggests getting the vic's prints
2) On the round table, click on the papers: Collect the note: It says "Red 30" (Any ideas yet?)
3) Under the step, click on the gun and then again on the butt near the trigger: Collect the skin sliver and the gun
4) On deck to right of table, click on the footprint: Lift with Adhesive Lifter

Morgue
Get the vic's fingerprints

Lab
Process new evidence:
1) Fingerprint (Scotch bottle): Matches the Judge's print
2) Shoe print: Matches Judge's brand: Size 10: Check the vic's size
3) DNA (skin from gun): Match to DNA from skin on diskette: Stanford (Search CODIS as well)
4) DNA (cigar butt): Match to vic's blood DNA
5) Gun (use search link): Belonged to the vic!
6) Bullet (test round from gun): Match to bullet recovered from book
7) Whiskey: Expensive Scotch: (Stain at the crime scene was probably Scotch whiskey)

Morgue
Get shoe size: 10

Now, what about those 2 notes? They suggest roulette and we've seen a roulette at the crime scene: Let's take a look

Judge's Study
Close up on the roulette wheel and click on the numbers: Note what happens
From the fact that there are 4 slots under the wheel, it looks like we need 2 more numbers to complete the code

Yelina
Re-interview Stanford: Ask about DNA on gun:
1) He says he shot the Judge when he was already dead (suicide?): (NOTE: Abuse of a corpse is illegal in Florida!)
2) Says he found and destroyed a suicide note (burned paper in fireplace) then set it up to implicate others to help sales of the memoir
3) Suggests connection between Bronson and Heather Cole: Donny is minding her house

Morgue
1) Could Judge have been dead when shot?: Probable
2) Learn he was dying of cancer
3) Need to do blood chemical analysis: Look for oxycodone hydrochloride

Lab
1) Get blood analysis: Possible lethal dose of painkiller: Administered by Donny?
2) H suggests talking to Heather Cole

Yelina
Continue interview with Heather: Ask about the gun at her house:
1) She says she doesn't have a gun
2) She claims the Judge wasn't killed with a gun
3) Ask her about her relationship with Donny B

At this stage all the interviewees are being tight-lipped and you can't get a warrant for Donny, so let's go talk to him at the golf course

Palm Glen
1) Talk to Donny: He suggests we'll need a "more formal channel" (ie a warrant) to get him to talk
2) You can check with Ty for updates, but nothing's happening

Yelina
Get Warrant for Donny and interrogate him:
1) He says he didn't do it
2) Says Heather wanted him to poison the Judge
3) Explains the vic's involvement in manipulating Heather and the others into committing murder
4) Horatio explains how the Judge framed Donny (prints on printer and bottle)

Interview Heather
Seem the Judge did influence her towards murder

See Ty at the golf course:
He reveals that the Judge arranged free club memberships for many people, including (coincidentally?)
Ron Preston, Heather Cole and Denise Diamond

Again, everyone has nothing to say, but we can now get some warrants for more locations

Diamond's Home:
Collect tissue from coffee table

Sullivan's Home
Close up on glass on table: Dust for a print and collect glass

Take new evidence to the Lab:
1) Glass: Contains same Scotch as in the bottle from Cole's house
2) DNA (tissue): Match to Judge's (blood)
3) Print (whiskey glass): Match to the Judge's (from corpse)

Horatio says we should talk to Denise Diamond and Troy Sullivan again

Yelina:
Interview Denise:
1) Judge gave her ideas that helped her murder plans (she thought he didn't realise it)
2) Get strange note off her: "Red 18"

Interview Sullivan:
1) Similar involvement of Judge
2) Another note: "Black 11"

Now we have 4 notes, with 4 colour-number combinations: Let's go back to the roulette wheel

NOTE: Remember to give the notes to Valera for completeness

Crime Scene
Close in on the roulette wheel and click on the 4 numbers
If the numbers are not in the correct sequence, Horatio says the vic was:
"attuned to the sequence of events" and we should consider the puzzle in that light
So try the numbers in clockwise sequence around the wheel: You'll hear a click and, behind Horatio
you'll find a secret compartment has opened in the floor: Close in on it
1) Click on the golf shoe: Swab blood stain: Collect shoe (interesting cleats!)
2) Click on torn paper: Collect it

Lab
1) DNA (blood from shoe): Belongs to Jack Simmons (vic from Case #2)
2) Torn paper: Reconstruct on assembly table: It's the Bard (Shakespeare) and a quotation

What next? None of the characters has much to say but, what about the playwright? Where have we seen good old
Will before? Remember the bust at the crime scene? Let's pay it another visit.

Crime Scene
Click on the bust: When Horatio finishes his speech, click again to open up the bust and collect a video tape

Lab
Play video tape:
The Judge explains his disillusionment with the Criminal Justice System and how he befriended the 4
would-be murderers and manipulated them. Then he commits suicide.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CRYPTO:
Diskette cryptogram solution: "I also have my suspicions that famous lawyer Donny Bronson has been involved in jury tampering".

QUERY:
The bullet in the book:
1) According to Stanford the Judge was already dead and slumped over when he shot him.
2) When we found the body, the vic's head was left side up, showing the entrance wound.
3) If that was the position when the bullet entered the head, it should've exited DOWNWARDS into the desk.
4) Don't those books seem to have been arranged very conveniently in just the right way to catch the bullet?!

EXTRAS (bonus material):
Cryptogram solution: "You lie down with the Devil, you wake up in Hell."
