Hard Evidence - Burning for You - Help

I have been given this game for Christmas by my son. Never played on x box before but I am really enjoying this game.
I have got to the golf course and in the windmill. I put the left hand golf ball (looking at the screen) down the hole and now I cannot go any further in the game. I have tried everything. It wont let me move the other golf ball into the hole.
What can I do, I really dont want to have to start again.
