Yahk BC was sold and bought on ther internet last year- it's up for sale again as the owner wants to move to the UK (following his fiance) and can't take care of the town.

There's also islands for sale.

Wish I had enough money to buy myself an island... *sigh*

Reversion

What is becoming of this world? You know what this means...if a person can buy a town, than the next step is that the residents of said town will become slaves!

Well that didn't happen in Yahk- the owner of the town just bought the land rights. He did not collect taxes for himself, nor did he become ruling mayor, king or dictator. He did have a seat on the town council, but someone else was mayor. He did help rebuild the town- fixed up a lot of the buildings, and roads, etc. He was planning to start building a resort there [nature camp for hiking etc.], but is leaving for love The sale stipulates that the new "owner" must help keep the small town alive. This might be the underlying difference between Canada and other places in the world, I guess!

I guess so- there is probably a European+Aboriginal root to it, or something along those lines. It's pronounced like the animal, yak. Thought it seemed fitting to share on a forum dedicated to talking about off topic things
