Cannot use some tools

I am so frustrated! When collecting the evidence at the house, some tools will not work. When I try to use ninhidrin on the paper, it says I can't use that here, and when I try to make a cast on the footprint outside of the window, it lets me use the cast, but it doesn't collect the cast and put in evidence. Am I doing something wrong?

Perhaps you're using the right tool on the wrong evidence. Remember : it's all about gestalt!
