| I think it's best to keep the background,etc. white- black is so overrated in terms of websites- so many are resorting to black now none of them stand out. Not to mention it can contradict any personal options any surfer might be using for their browser- some people choose to use a different colour for text, etc., an d if a user is visually impaired, black is not a good colour to use.
Maybe some CSI related smilies or something would be nice- icons that have more to do with the theme?
PS: the chat box I mentioned in the first post is sometimes called a "shout box". Many sites (like the one suggested by poseidon) require users to log in to see and use it.
